Who is Team iDemise?

Team iDemise is not a single person, but like the name implies, it’s a group of people. In this case, it’s a professional group of gamers who play a variety of games (Team iDemise ranks at the top for games like Counter-Strike source, and Quake).

Their new WoW leveling guides take into consideration the new expansions, and offer step-by-step instructions on how to level to 80 as quickly as possible. It lists which quests you need to complete, in what order, and which quests to just skip because they’re a waste of time. The cool thing is that a member of Team iDemise took a different WoW character class and leveled them up, which gives you a good perspective on every character class in WoW. By playing each character class, Team iDemise was also able to determine what were too difficult for each character class since each character is different (what may be easy for a tank at level 30 may potentially be a hair-pulling experience for a level 30 druid). This is great because it saves you a ton of time.

Team iDemise’s guide is a customized in-game add-on, called QuestUp. You can customize a lot of the window settings, and it’s very intuitive and easy to understand. They provide you with level ranges to choose from, and you just need to check off the right one, and get started. Once you’re done with a step, check it off and go to the next. This way you don’t have to remember about where you left off – the guide will automatically remember this for you, so you can log back on again and continue immediately where you left off. The guide provides sufficient enough instructions in most places, so that you don’t have to study your quest log too much. However, I found that QuestUp pales in comparison with Zygor’s (see my review of the Zygor leveling guide).

Team iDemise claims that their guide will allow for the fastest 1-80 leveling time in the world, but there aren’t any screenshots nor proof of this record-breaking leveling time.

My Verdict

This is a nice guide, unfortunately, the Zygor leveling guide leaves it in the dust. I highly recommend the Zygor leveling guide over Team iDemise leveling guide.

Joana guide is simple and on one goal: to get to level 80 as fast as possible, playing as Horde, by questing. Joana guide has a superior questing sequence with a lot of details. For example, instead of just telling you to complete a bunch of quests, Joana tells you to complete a certain few quests BEFORE turning in. He also thinks and planned out a better, more efficient route for you, which minimizes travel, and maximizes your experience-gain. You can use Joana’s leveling guide for any horde race and class because there’s separate guides for Death Knights, undead, tauren, orcs, trolls, and blood elves. The main difference among them is that you would also do your class quests on top of the standard, common quests.

Since Joana is an active WoW player, he’s always adding and tweaking things. For example, the level 70-80 WotLK version of Joana guide has been updated 18 times in the first few months alone, so you can be sure that Joana is serious about this leveling guide.

My Verdict

This is very good leveling guide, by a very committed professional WoW player. This guide also has the benefit of being grind-free, which is different from other leveling guides that require you to do a lot of grinding.

The good thing is that you can choose to purchase his separate guides individually, but if you get it all as a package, then you get substantial savings.

Dugi’s Ultimate World Of Warcraft Leveling Guide

Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide contains very detailed level 1-80 leveling guides for both horde and alliance. Dugi keeps it updated, and offers both an in-game add-on, as well as a guide that you can view online. Like Zygor’s guide, Dugi also provides an in-game “talent advisor” that advises you onhow to spend your talents while leveling up.

Dugi includes loot lists for all classes, from level 1-80. These loot lists even includes battlegrounds, class quests, and reputations. I found this very important, because you’ll always be wanting to find the best gear for your characters.

I’d say Dugi’s leveling guide is pretty complete, save for the fact that there’s no gameplay strategies that show you how to play your character in solo, PvP, instances and so on. That’s not that major though, and overall, this makes for a great leveling guide.

Dugi’s Ultimate World Of Warcraft Gold Farming / Auction House & Profession Guide

This part of the Dugi Ultimate WoW guide basically gives you information about your finances. There’s a gold guide, an auction house guide, and a profession leveling guide.

The gold farming guide has a lot of strategies for a variety of level ranges, so everyone can benefit from this guide. Most of the gold gathering strategies are centered around grinding, and gathering professions. There’re also the auction house videos that show you how to find good deals to turn a profit on. These are auction house strategies that work, and only require about half an hour each day. You can potentially get hundreds to thousands of gold this way.

The professions guide teach you how to choose your profession and how to skill-up quickly and cheaply (most of the guides are for 1-450), with the occasional tip here and there. Since you’ll have 5 professions (2 primary professions and first aid, cooking and fishing), a good professional guide will definitely save you a lot of time. It’s especially useful when you want to change professions, and saves you tons of time. All professions are covered in this guide, including first aid, cooking, fishing, inscription, lock picking and so on. The guides lists everything you need to make or gather, where you can get recipes for it and the order you should make them in, and what mats you’ll need. Separate guides for horde and alliance are given also, for areas like skinning and herbalism. This is a very comprehensive guide in itself, and some people are charging what Dugi charges for the complete package for just their professions and gold guide alone.

My Verdict

WoW is such a huge game that has so many different aspects that a good overall guide is needed – Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide fills this need and gives you good resources across leveling, gold, PvP, and reputation, and so on, and if you get the entire package, it’s a very heavily discounted price. In addition, I also like how the Dugi guides are kept up-to-date. They’ve managed to evolve from a written step-by-step PDF guide, to an easy-to-read in-game guide, to a sophisticated fully-automatic guide in the current 4th generation of the leveling guide (called Dugi’s Guide V4).

Zygor was able to be so successful at WoW because he was playing WoW since it was in beta, and spent his time learning the intricacies of every quest, ensuring that he only did the most speed-efficient quests, and throw out all the junk quests that Blizzard put into WoW to slow players down. As you can imagine, Zygor didn’t have a guide on paper to refer to. Everything was in his head, and he knew all the paths and sequences to finish quests by memory. There was no way a paper-based leveling guide could compare to this.

As a serious connoisseur of WoW leveling guides, I appreciate the breath of fresh new air that Zygor has introduced into the market. His guides was the first who introduced an actual in-game leveling add-on that made alt-tabbing to read a PDF guide a thing of the past. He was LIGHT YEARS ahead of the competition who were still requiring you to print and read their guides (map co-ordinates anyone?), and is continually keeping ahead. As you can imagine, it made going to places MUCH easier, and you’ll never have the problem of getting lost in-game and having trouble finding the objective. His guide even provides a handy pointer arrow that shows you the right way!

With the guide as an in-game add-on, EVERYTHING you need to know is handled by the program. It is almost like having Zygor there, looking behind your shoulder, telling you what to do on each step. After I tried out Zygor’s guide, PDF guides and alt-tabbing became so old-school.

Legality

Blizzard has stated that add-on developers may not sell their add-ons in a recent policy change. Other than Zygor’s guide, all the other WoW guides out there do not take this into consideration.

Only Zygor’s guide works within the guidelines of Wow. You can definitely still use other in-game add-ons, but just note that they are in violation of Blizzard’s rules, so you may get banned at any time. As such, I highly recommend Zygor’s guide.
